Formpro MM warns of job losses as economy takes its toll

Mailing house Formpro MM has announced that it will be making job cuts in the New Year, after entering into consultation with its staff.

The Bristol-headquartered company had reported a mainly positive 2008, following a tumultuous 2007, employing 20 new staff in May. Barclays Venture also sank more than £2m into the company in September.

However, the current economic climate has led Formpro to enter into a period of consultation with its staff, which could lead to job losses.

Formpro maintained that it expects the final redundancy figure to be less than 15, which should be confirmed by the year's end.

Managing director Paul Anderson said: "We have taken this decision following a review of the company's strategic direction and how we can offer a more focused service for clients.

"Like many companies at the moment we're facing increased pressures as a result of a tough economic climate, and during recessionary times it is more important than ever to be prudent and take a long-term view on the future success of the business."

Roles likely to be affected are predominantly in administrative and support functions.

The company added that new positions will be created in client-facing roles, as the business places greater emphasis on its core areas, such as secure and data sensitive mailings, print management and daily fulfilment, including personalisation.

Formpro MM employs 300 people across its Bristol and Swindon sites. The Swindon site is unaffected by the redundancies.
