NeoLux launches digital reader in South Korea with 50,000 books available
E-book technology is to become affordable after the launch in South Korea of a low-price reader, coupled with thousands of content deals.
NeoLux has launched the NUUT, a new e-book device with an electronic paper screen, the first consumer product of its kind in the Korean market.
The device costs £143 ($280), which NeoLux claims makes it the most affordable e-book reader with an electronic-paper screen on the market.
The company also has deals with major Korean publishers to offer 50,000 books and comics for download on its e-book store, www.nuutbook.com, and plans to add further content, such as newspapers, magazines, professional content and textbooks in the future.
NUUT has a Vizplex electronic paper screen, the latest electronic paper display from E Ink Corporation. The company claims that the latest update of Vizplex offers an 80% better refresh rate and 25% better brightness than the previous version.
E Ink's electronic paper display offers paper-like readability under sunlight, a viewing angle of nearly 180 degrees, and ultra-low power consumption: about 5% of that of conventional LCD.
On the hardware side, the NUUT offers 512MB of internal memory, large enough for 1,000 e-books, and a rechargeable battery good for up to 7,500 page turns with a single charge.
The software offers a variety of page turning methods, footnote viewing, and music playing and supports English, Korean, Chinese and Japanese in various font sizes.
